Mistakes are building blocks to success..
Lalit Modi Sharp, brash, ruthlessly ambitious, and admired and reviled in equal measure, Lalit Modi will be known as the man who changed the landscape of cricket. The Indian Premier League, the multi-million-dollar, football-style, franchise-based domestic league, which Modi conceived and executed with spectacular success, has hurtled cricket to the fast lane, forcing the traditionalists to follow suit even while squirming. The tournament, first held in 2008, consolidated India's position as cricket's economic powerhouse, and consequently, its premier agenda-setter. Modi's rise to the top rung of Indian cricket has been as fast as it has been stunning. Scion of a leading Indian business family, he began his career as an adversary of the Indian cricket board in the early 90s when he was trying to build a business out of distributing sports pay channels. He knew even then that live sports was one of the few things the Indian television consumer would pay for but soon realised the best way to beat the system was to join it. However, it was not until 2005, when he became the youngest vice-president of the BCCI, that he came into prominence. He soon became the driving force of the board's commercial activities and pushed its revenues over the US$1 billion mark. His abrasive and confrontational approach - among other things, he accused the ICC of harbouring a neo-colonial bias - didn't win him many friends in international cricket but both he and his adversaries are acutely aware of this: where there is money, there is muscle. He is one of the person I wish to admire, adore and idealize. Here is a small interview of Lalit Modi, titled Mistakes are building blocks to success, in Times of India dated 1 May 2009. Mistakes are building blocks to success
Making dreams come true Frankly it is all about believing in yourself and having clarity of vision. Once you have that you will know how to work towards it. Then you need to a team that buys into your vision and makes their own. I draw my strength from the aspirations of a million young kids playing cricket in every nook and corner of the country with a hope that some day they will represent India on the international stage. It is also critical for you to learn from your mistakes not take setbacks to heart. Treat them as building blocks to success. Optimism and positive outlook also help to a great extent. Finally belief in one self, no matter what critics say, is the key to success in life. Developing Skills Clear vision and slingle minded focus to achieve it, come what may, are critical to being able to manage an event of this magnitude. Facing problems head-on and converting them into opportunities is important. Everyone works under different constraints everyday but it is all about soaking up the pressure, having the patience, and the peserverance to trudge on, even in the face o fhuge obstacles. This separates wheat from the chaff. Working under pressure. I have always maintained that when you undertake any project - be it in cricket, business, or life - you need to execute it to the best of your abilities and set new benchmarks. Striving for excellence makes on persevee tirelessly. Lastly, experience is the key that helps you take judicious and well-balanced deicisions. Dr. Prahlada N.B Thanks to Times of India.
