My Favorite Songs |
I love music. I did not born in a family of a musicians or singers. I was a natural love. During schooling I loved the movie songs. Probably the best music ever produced in varuous Indian languages was in those yester years. During pre-university course the Western pop music of 80's caught my attention. I fell in love with the pop songs. While I prepared for my final exams of II year pre-university course, I used to listen to the radio throuhg out the night. I always required some music while I study. Music enhanced my concentration in studies. During my Graduate medical course, the western classical music also attracted me. One of the golden moments in my life is listening to Bach composition during a opera in Kologne, Germany in 1994. Indo-western fusion music also caught my fancy. Madras Cafe is one those my favorite album. However, now I am unable to get that album. Other great compositions were by my all time favorite composer Ilayaraja. "Nothing but wind" and "How to name it" still never fail to lift my mood in all situations. The final love was with Indian classical music. I was part of SPIC MACAY (Society for Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth) team in Davanagere where I did my Graduate Medical Education. I had rare opportunity to listen to Prabha Atre and Kunnumkudi Vaidyanathan during this time. I also participated in SPIC MACAY naitonal convention at Gwalior, India, during which I visited Tansen tomb and listen Daggar brothers singing Drupad form of Indian classfical music. Miyan Tansen or Ramtanu Pandey (1493 or 1506 – 1586 or 1589) is considered among the greatest composer-musicians in Hindustani classical music . He was an extraordinarily gifted vocalist, known for a large number of compositions, and also an instrumentalist who popularized and improved the rabab (of Central Asian origin). He was one of the Navaratnas (nine jewels) at the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar . Akbar gave him the title Miyan (an honorific , meaning learned man). However, I love all forms of music and in all languages. One of my favorite hobby is to collect the native music of the country and places I visit. I have American, German, Zimbabwean, American, Srilankan, Malaysian and many other country music in my collection. Now A.R Rahaman has become a naitonal obsession in India after winning an Oscar for "Slumdog Millionnaire". A great moment for India as well as me. Prahlada N.B
