Mosher in 1929 said: "If the ethmoid were placed in any other part of the body it would be an insignificant and harmless collection of bony cells". In the place where nature has put it, it has major relatioships so that diseases and surgery of the labyrinth often lead to tragedy. Any surgery in this region should be simple but it has proven one of the easiest ways to kill a patient."
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery has been an area of major interest for the Otolaryngologist in the last two decades. As with Otologic Micro Surgery, in the field of FESS, in the initial 20 years many surgeons described a lot of different techniques and terminologies. The surgical techniques evolve till we expect them to crystallise into universally accepted procedures. But in the field of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery one constant factor has been the help that the surgeon receives from studying the CT Scan images of the patient's paranasal sinus and skull base area. As has been aptly described, a CT Scan is like a road map for the endoscopist who is venturing into this dangerous area of the skull. It is therefore mandatory for the endoscopist to be able to read and understand images of the paranasal sinus specially the CT Scan so that he can have a three dimensional picture in his mind as he proceeds with the surgery. Dr. Prahlada and his colleagues deserve to be congratulated on their excellent presentation of imaging techniques, normal anatomy, variation and different disease patterns which they have put together for the benefit of the Endoscopic Sinus Surgeon. I am confident that this hand book will be of great value not only to Post-graduate students but also to the practising Otolaryngologist.

I feel immensely proud of Dr. Prahlad in bringing out this book on imaging. Though our Radiology department has given all the help, the credit of concept and implementation entirely goes to him. While working in private sector, to keep our academic interests alive and active is commendable. I hope Dr. Prahlad will continue to this tradition even after he ends his bachelorship. If this book is of value to upcoming and practicing ENT surgeons, the entire effort of this gentleman is rewarded. We should congratulate him for attempting such a novel venture in the early phase of his career, which many of the seniors of our profession have failed to do.
I wish success for this book and for all his future endeavors.

I am very glad to know that our ENT and Head-Neck Surgeon Dr. Prahlada N.B is bringing out a hand book on “Imaging for endoscopic sinus surgery”. The publication of a book such as this involves great effort, dedication and wise utilization of clinical material and skills. Al Shifa hospital and CT Scan Center has always stood in the fore front in educating the young doctors and make them exposed to the new horizons of modern medicine. This book is unique in that it is a synopsis as well as it contains the scientific matter in an easily understandable manner. The academic and professional skill Dr. Prahlada has gained from Postgraduate Institute, Chandigarh is made available to the highest level, to the people and medical profession of Kerala. I came to know that the clinical material of this book is gathered from this super-speciality hospital which of course reflects highest degree of diagnostic and therapeutic facilities of our hospital.
In future similar publications and academic activities will be made available from other specialities and super-specialites, regularly.
I wish this venture all success and congratulate Dr. Prahlada.
