Program overivew

This program is designed for practicing otolaryngologists with a significant interest in endoscopic sinus surgery and management of sinus and nasal problems. The course is a 15 to 30 day one-on-one "Hands-on" clinical experience udner the supervision of Dr. Prahlada N.B. Participants also have the opportunity to perform a cadaveric dissection at Basaveshwara Medical Colelge and Hospital and to obtain experience of hands-on Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy and actual surgery under suverpvison. . The course also includes didactic lelcutes on basic topics. Only one otolaryngologist is admitted at a time for this mini fellowship. This allows for a close one-on-one experience with the faculty. This program is conducted throughout the year on mutually convenient dates with prior appointment.

Objectives

To train ENT specialist to obtain deep knowledge and high competence in routine rhinological surgeries including Cosmetic Rhinoplasty, excluding endoscopic sinus surgery. At the end of the training program, the trainee will acquire:-

  1. High competence in the diagnosis of diseases in nose and paranasal sinuses including allergy.
  2. High competence in the treatment of Nose, paranasal sinus disease including allergy.
  3. Knowledge of prevention and management of complications of diseases of nose and paranasal sinuses.
  4. Ability to give education, consultation and suggestion to solve Rhinological problems to other colleagues, nurses, medical students and other medical personnels.
  5. Ability to co-operate with other medical personnels in the areas of academics and medical administration.
  6. Ability to perform a good scientific research.
  7. Good attitude and relationship with patients and other medical personnels.

Cadaver Dissection
  • Done in association with Department of Anatomy, Basaveshwara Medical College and Hospital.
  • Facilities: Cadaver head and necessary equipment will be provided.
  • Objective: To learn anatomy required for conventional nose, paranasal sinus surgery, and rhinoplasty.

  4. Radiology of Rhinology.

  6. Surgical approaches to nose and paranasal sinuses and preventional of complications
  7. Minimizing and preventing bleeding during rhinological surgeries.
  8. Diagnosis and Management of Epistaxis.

  • Routine Nasal Surgeries: Septoplasty and Bilateral inferior turbinectomy, turbinate reduction using Radiofrequency.
